How to avoid spam
Nobody likes spam emails or messages cluttering their inbox. At Private.Ki, we employ robust spam filters and give you tools to keep unwanted messages to a minimum. However, there are also proactive steps you can take to avoid receiving spam. Here are best practices and features to help keep your Private.Ki communications spam-free:
Be Cautious Where You Use Your Private.Ki Address
Prevention is better than cure. To avoid getting spam in the first place:
Don’t post your email address publicly on forums or social media. Spammers scrape websites for visible emails. If you need to share contact info publicly, consider obfuscating it (like “name [at] private dot ki”) or using a throwaway address.
Be mindful when signing up on sketchy sites. If a website or service looks a bit dodgy, don’t use your primary Private.Ki email. Use an alias or a temporary email service. Many spam messages can be avoided by not giving your address out freely.
Read terms and opt-out of marketing. When registering for services, look for checkboxes about “I agree to receive promotional emails” and feel free to uncheck them if you’re not interested. Some sites pre-check those to sneakily opt you in.
Unsubscribe from Legitimate Mailing Lists
If you’re receiving newsletters or promotional emails from companies you recognize but no longer want, use the Unsubscribe link typically found at the bottom of those emails. Reputable organizations will remove you from the list if you unsubscribe. This can significantly cut down unwanted mail.
For example, if you signed up for a store’s updates and now it’s spammy, scroll down and click “Unsubscribe.” It might ask for confirmation but then should stop emails. If no unsubscribe link is present (and it’s a newsletter), you can reply with “unsubscribe” as some guidance suggests, but if it’s a malicious spam, do not engage. In that case, simply mark as spam.
