Draft messages
Drafts are emails that you’ve composed but haven’t sent yet. Private.Ki’s draft functionality works to ensure you don’t lose your work and that even your drafts are stored securely:
Auto-Save and Drafts Folder
As you compose an email, Private.Ki will periodically auto-save your draft. You don’t have to manually save drafts – the system saves for you every 2 seconds after you've stopped typing.
You can see the time of the last save at the bottom of the compose window:
There is a folder called Drafts in your mailbox. If a message is saved as a draft, you can click the Drafts folder to see all your draft emails:
Your draft emails are shown like this:
To resume working on a draft, go to the Drafts folder and click on the draft email. It will re-open in the compose editor so you can continue writing:
Once you finish, hit Send from the compose window.
The email will send and then be removed from Drafts (and appear in Sent), as soon as it is sent.
Drafts and Encryption
Drafts of emails are stored encrypted on our servers. We use AES encryption to encrypt drafts.
Nobody else besides you can decrypt the draft message. Even we can't. While in Drafts, your message is always encrypted with AES.
If you're sending an encrypted email, it will be encrypted with PGP with the recipient's public key, as soon as it's being sent.
A copy of the message will be stored in your Sent folder, encrypred with AES.
Sync and Deletion
Because Private.Ki is server-based, your drafts sync across devices. So if you start an email in the web interface and then stop, you can later open the mobile app and find the draft there (since it’s saved on the server). It might take a few seconds to sync after saving. The same applies vice versa: a draft typed on mobile will show up in web.
If you decide not to send a draft, you can delete it. Just delete it like an email by clicking on the Trash icon at the bottom of the compose window:
That moves it to Trash folder. So it’s not in your Drafts anymore. If you change your mind, you could retrieve from Trash if not emptied.
