Receiving encrypted emails (externally)
When you receive an encrypted email from an external recipient (who is not on Private.Ki), we encrypt it a second time. Our servers automatically encrypt it again with your PGP key, for additional security.
You won't notice the difference, the email looks just the same as an internal encrypted email:
The green closed lock symbol shows you that this message is PGP-encrypted.
When you hover over the button with your mouse, it shows PGP-encrypted:
This message is fully encrypted (twice) with PGP. All metadata is encrypted with AES.
However, your metadata is probably saved on the sender's server. In case the recipient is using Gmail, Proton, Yahoo or similar, the metadata of this message is saved on their servers in a non-encrypted way. That's a good reason to invite the sender to Private.Ki, by the way!
You can reply to this external message easily by clicking on Reply at the bottom of the message:
To send an encrypted reply, you need the public key of the recipient.
If you don't have their public key yet, you can only send a non-encrypted message to them. Be careful with that: The reply function quotes the email that they sent to you - don't send something that they send you encrypted in a non-encrypted reply.
